Our Story

Named for a goddess.

Athena was the Greek goddess of wisdom — and wisdom, on a Lagos beach, looks a lot like knowing when to slow down.

The Athena emblem: an owl above a woman's face, inside a Greek-key ring

The emblem

An owl, a face and a ring.

The owl was Athena's bird — the sign of someone who sees clearly. On our emblem it sits above her face, the two merging into one.

Around them runs the Greek key, the meander: a single line that turns and turns again without breaking. You'll find it across this site, at the foot of every page.

On the beach

A little of Olympus.

The statue

Athena, at the head of the water

She stands in a frame above the lagoon pool — dark against the white, looking out over the swimmers.

Olympus

Home of the gods

In the myths, the gods lived on Mount Olympus. Here, Olympus is the building by the pool — and the gods, it turns out, like a lounger as much as anyone.

The line on the wall

Even gods do chill

It's written on the wall above the pool, and it's the whole idea: wherever you've come from, whatever the week was, this is where it stops for a while.
